What is Anxiety?
There are several types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and various phobia-related disorders.
Social Anxiety involves a fear or anxiety about being humiliated or scrutinized in social situations, which causes significant distress or impairment in day-to-day functioning. Fears may be associated with social interactions, being observed and/or performing (Source: CAMH, 2023).
Generalized Anxiety Disorder refers to an experience of chronic, excessive, and uncontrollable worry. You may be on edge, easily fatigued, have difficulty concentrating, feel irritable, experience muscle tension, and have problems sleeping. Around 1 out of every 12 individuals in Canada will suffer from GAD at some time in their life. (Canadian Psychological Association, 2023).
Panic Disorder/Panic Attacks refers to recurrent, unexpected panic attacks, constant concern about having another panic attack or the consequences of a panic attack , and/or significant behaviour changes related to the attacks (Source: CAMH, 2023)
